Consell Insular de Menorca – Agència Menorca Reserva de Biosfera (CIME)
The Insular Council of Menorca is an institution of self-government in the area of the island of Menorca. It was created in 1978 after the approval of the regime of island councils and officially instituted according to the agreement of the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands.
The institution exercises, according to its competences, a legislative (Plenary of the Council) and executive power. The plenary session constituted by 13 chancellors, the composition of which is established by the number of chancellors obtained by each political formation in the Menorca district in the elections to the Parliament of the Balearic Islands. With the entry into force of the reform of the Statute of Autonomy approved in 2007, the composition of the Insular Council comes from its own elections to the insular councils convened for this purpose. This plenary session is in charge of approving tasks and choosing the president of the institution.
Agència Menorca Reserva de Biosfera: Established in 2008, it is a specialized non-legal organization under the authority of the Consell Insular de Menorca island government. It is made up of different branches: the President, the Administrative Council, the Social Council and the Scientific Council.
